Application: Interactable Gallery Display
Engine: Unity
Development Period: 6 months
Platform: PC
The Project was oriented towards a Unity-Based Multi-User Experience. The aim of this project was to task our Year with a sizeable project that combines elements of pre-production
and production based on a strict delivery schedule.
Throughout this project our Year would apply rigorous project management practices, planning and reporting along with project activities related to costing, contingency planning, marketing and planned
scalability.
The project was then finally assessed via a Group Presentation, Project Delivery Planning, Formal Reporting, Demonstration, Pitching and Panel Interview.
For Students to create an application that will help convey a narrative/ bring "to life" the already well documented archives of the Burrell Collection in Glasgow.
The interactive experience had to be socially distanced and COVID-19 ready. Our application had to consider posibile interactions with the use of motion sensing visitors and the
use of gestures and movement, using voice activation and/or character AI, to interact with the display.
The client was also particularly interested in seeing us use Non-3D Pieces of Work such as paintings, tapestries etc, to see how we would come up with a way for users to interact with these
artworks.
During our Research period we came across a Virtual Reality experience where the creator had made a 3D Virtual Van Gogh Experience, allowing users to "step into" the world of Van Gogh's Paintings, having the
user walk through different paintings connecting them through winding streets, all in the style of Van Gogh's art. With the use of 2D cutouts and 3D models.
We loved the idea of having people "step into" the paintings, however due to our brief and the pandemic, we wouldn't be able to use VR Headsets or recreate such a massive scale project. But from this we were
inspired to cut out and animate paintings, using motion gestures to move around them and to interact with the subject matter and learn more about them through pop up texts and animations.
Creating an appropriate 3D Scene to house 3D Artworks from the Collection.
